El presidente Felipe Calderón declaró tres días de luto nacional por el ataque incendiario a un casino en la ciudad norteña de Monterrey que dejó al menos 52 muertos. El mandatario calificó a los responsables del ataque de "verdaderos terroristas que han rebasado todos los límites". En un mensaje desde la residencia presidencial, Calderón indicó que también pidió a la Procuraduría General de la República ofrecer una "sustancial recompensa" a quien proporcione información que lleve a capturar a los responsables. "Hasta este momento llevamos ya 52 personas fallecidas" informó al noticiero Televisa, Rodrigo Medina, gobernador de Nuevo León, cuya capital es Monterrey. INFIERNO DENTRO DEL CASINO "Entraron las personas, vi a uno de ellos, era pelón, nos dijo unas palabras horribles y luego nos gritó 'todos al piso'", manifestó a la prensa un testigo que pidió el anonimato. "No sé si haya un arma que haga un ruido similar pero fue un estruendo impresionante, no quiero volver a vivir eso", añadió el testigo, quien narró que él y otras personas tuvieron que subir al techo para escapar al fuego. El director de Protección Civil, Jorge Camacho, explicó que la magnitud de la tragedia se debió a que al oír las detonaciones causadas por el incendio, las personas que se encontraban en el interior del casino se refugiaron en los baños u oficinas en vez de usar la salida de emergencia, sin saber que el fuego se propagaba rápidamente en el interior del lugar. Los bomberos tardaron unas cuatro horas en controlar el incendio y tuvieron que abrir boquetes en las paredes del edificio para acceder a la planta alta. RECHAZO DE LAS AUTORIDADES El atentado, ocurrido cerca de las 16H00 (21H00 GMT), fue perpetrado por seis hombres que llegaron al lugar en dos automóviles, añadió el gobernador, quien admitió que aún podrían haber más cuerpos en el interior del casino y que los bomberos y elementos de rescate continuarán trabajando. El Casino Royale, un local de más de 1.720 m2, pudo haber sido incendiado "con líquidos inflamables como gasolina", añadió Medina. Calderón, condenó el ataque en su cuenta de twitter. "Con profunda consternación expreso mi solidaridad con Nuevo León y con las víctimas del aberrante acto de terror y de barbarie", expresó el mandatario. "Se ha cometido un acto de terror inadmisible" que no quedará "impune", aseguró de su lado, en un mensaje a la prensa, Alejandro Poiré, secretario Técnico del Consejo de Seguridad. El presidente instruyó al secretario de Gobernación, Francisco Blake, trasladarse a Monterrey para encabezar las investigaciones. LUCHA ENTRE CÁRTELES Monterrey, polo industrial del norte de México y sede de firmas trasnacionales, se convirtió desde 2010 en escenario de una lucha feroz entre el cártel del Golfo y sus antiguos aliados Los Zetas, una organización integrada por ex militares desertores. Esta ciudad, la tercera más grande de México, había vivido en julio pasado su semana más trágica con al menos 71 asesinatos atribuidos a carteles de las drogas, que se desencadenaron con un ataque a un bar que dejó 21 muertos el 9 de julio pasado. Versiones periodísticas señalan que varios casinos y centro nocturnos de Monterrey han sido atacados en los últimos meses porque sus dueños se han negado a pagar extorsiones, otra fuente de ingresos de los narcotraficantes.
